Boat Race

In this event, four team members each have 2 - 10 fluid ounce glasses with 8 fluid ounces of beer placed in front of them. The game commences after the World Beer Games official starting light reaches green.

The first member of the team lifts one of the glasses, drinks the contents and places the empty glass on the timing device. As soon as the empty glass is placed on the table the second member lifts one of his/her glasses from the table, drinks the contents and places the empty glass on the table. This process repeats for player three and four.

Player four “rounds the corner” by lifting and drinking his/her first ½ pint and then drinking his/her second pint and sends the relay back to player three, then two and finally one.

The following rules apply to the Boat Race:

A. Official glass is 10 fluid ounces

B. Official amount of beer in each glass is 8 fluid ounces.

C. Each ½ pint glass must start and end bottom down.

D. All participants must be standing with both feet on floor or kneeling (unless contestant is handicapped).

E. All participants must start with lifting hand near but not touching the glass.

F. Non-lifting hand must be placed behind back unless you are the “anchor” who can have both hands available.

G. Athletes may position their face and hands as close to the glass as they wish – provided no part of their body makes contact with the glass prior to the start.

H. Timing begins when starting light reaches green.

I. Athletes who lift pint glass from platform before green light will be charged with a false start.

J. Each athlete is allowed one false start.

K. Athletes with two false starts are disqualified from the heat.

L. Players must drain entire contents of ½ pint glass before placing glass back on the platform.

M. The limited spill rule is in effect. Loss of liquid from the glass, which delivers an excessive amount of spillage onto the participant, will result in disqualification by the referee. This will be at the discretion of the referee and judging committee.

N. There is a Residual Liquid Allowance of ¼ oz as denoted by line on bottom of official glass. If any liquid remains above the line contestant is disqualified.
