Rules & Regulations

A. Individual Eligibility
All participants in an officially sanctioned WBG event must be in compliance with all consumption laws of the host country or state. In order to verify age and team eligibility participants must:

  • Provide government issued identification authenticating participant’s age.
  • Provide government issued identification authenticating participant’s country of birth or citizenship.
B. Team Eligibility
All teams must be comprised of 5 members and 2 alternates providing required proof under the Individual Eligibility rules. Teams must enter only one individual specialist in only one each of the individual events:
  • Pint Chug
  • Speed Quarters
  • Pint Curling
  • Trivia
Individual times or scores in each competitive heat will be acceptable for individual World Beer Games record review. Medal points allocated for performance in individual events will be added to team total to determine the World Beer Games champion nation. Teams must have three members competing in the following team event:
  • Empty Can Toss
Teams must have four members competing in the following team events:
  • Boat Race
Official team times or scores qualify for WBG team record review. Medal points allocated for team events will be added to team total to determine the WBG champion nation.

C. Medals
Medals will be awarded to individuals in each individual event, teams in each team event and overall according to point standings. The medal designations are as follows:

1st place – Lager
2nd place – White
3rd place – Ale

Total individual medal points will be accumulated per team and added up to determine the overall team champion. 1st – 3rd place medals will be awarded according to each team with the champion team receiving the Brewers Keg award.

D. Multi-Heat Events
The following events are multi-heat events:
  • Pint Chug
  • Speed Quarters
  • Boat Race
  • Pint Curling
  • Empty Can Toss
  • Trivia
In each of these events there will be multiple heats of head-to-head competition. Each round of competition qualifies to set official World Beer Games records. The winners in each round of competition advance to the next round of competition.
